Aside from the obvious, the space they take up, the LCD monitor have better color definitions. The CRT is big, looking like a small tv and uses more electricy than a LCD monitor. Because CRTs can collect dust in them they work harder than a LCD monitor. There are many more differences but I don't think that you want to go into the internal construction of CRTs vs LCDs. Suffice to say that LCDs are better.

The CRT retains a deadly charge even after it's been turned off, unplugged, and stored in a box for 3 weeks.

Really. I've done the discharge procedure on monitors that have been unplugged for weeks, and gotten a hell of a spark.

Unless you really know what you're doing (in which case you would not be asking about hazard), it's very unlikely that you could fix it. Write it off, buy a flat screen, never look back.

Possibility of death.

If you don't have experience servicing CRT monitors, then you really shouldn't try, if you touch a capacitor that has not been properly discharged, you could be killed. Usually there is not all that much you can do anyways. It's usually easier to just pick up a new monitor. You can find them for like 20 bucks just about anywhere.

What makes you think you can fix it? There are too many stages involved, low voltage power, high voltage power, horizontal, vertical, deflection and one section usually controls another
This requires component repair. If you don't know what you are doing you can get zapped, seriously
That suction cup looking thing at the top side of the CRT is the high voltage anode that holds a charge of about 25000 - 40000 volts. If you touch this tip it will knock you clear across the room, I'm not kidding.
DON'T DO IT!!

CRT monitors can maintain a charge strong enough to kill you for several weeks after being unplugged. It's not worth your life. Just find a cheap CRT and shell out the cash.

Not to attempt? Is this a trick question? If you don't know about electronics and high voltage transformers DON'T attempt to repair a CRT, otherwise if you know what you are doing, GO FOR IT!!!

The pipe is made of lead. Unless you are trained and experienced you have a better chance of screwing it up further than you do of fixing it. And it's cheaper to buy a new one than to waste your time trying to fix your old one. CRTs are a dime a dozen nowadays with Plasma and DLP out.

High voltages inside a TV or CRT monitor can electrocute you (as in dead, dead, dead).

They are cheap and easy to replace. However, if you know how nothing us wrong with it. On the other hand if you do not know how it *could* be dangerous...
