My mother recently passed away. At her death bed, my sister had asked for her forgiveness, and to show her a sign that she has been set free and lifted of the burden she has carried for a long time. Two days later, a big white heron mysteriously appeared on the rooftop of the neighbor's house across from theirs. This kind of bird had never been seen in this part of town before, but sat there quietly for a good 20 minutes. Was this the sign that she had asked for? Was this my mother's spirit visiting?

There are many Nature-Based religions that believe birds carry messages both from and about he dead and dying.
If it gives your famly comfort, hold it near your heart.

Not very likely. It was probably an Egret. They are migrating at various times throughout the US, and depending on where you live, it could either have been a temporary resident or simply passing through. Your grief made you particularly sensitive, which is understandable, and so if you NEED to feel it was a sign and cannot endure the lack of one, then you can interpret it as you see fit. Just don't impose that interpretation on others, or they're likely to consider you daft.

Yes I believe so; in folklore, ancestors were believed to visit the earth within the body of a heron.
Cranes, herons, egrets... all symbolic of messengers, communion, higher state of consciousness, renewal, life, transformation.

No I'm sorry to say but it was not. If you believe in God and believe in his words, read Eccl.9:5 It says the dead know nothing. Your Mother is sleeping in her grave waiting for Jesus to come and awake her. Satan can play dirty tricks on family members that are grieving. He wants you to believe that, that heron was your mothers Spirit. Because if you believe that, then Satan played his game well. God does not lie, the dead are dead until Jesus returns. Your Dear Mother is only sleeping waiting for Jesus......

No, you cannot come back from Hell or Heaven. Once you have moved one to either one of them you cannot come back and certainly not as a bird. That sounds like recarnation stuff which I do not believe in.
