I'm seventeen years old and I have a little sister, she just turned six. She likes to, if I'm reading a book to her, or kissing her good night, reach up and run her hand along my face- she likes the feeling of the stubble. I can't decide if its appropriate to let her...I mean, I personally think telling her "No, you can't" is stupid and reinforces problems we have in society...but I want to hear what others have to say. Thanks.

It's fine, she is just showing you affection. Relax and don't read so much into little things.

Not inappropriate at all!
My 10 month old daughter does it when I hold her, feed her, or lay with her on the couch as she goes to sleep. She is amazed by the feeling of the stubble.

Most brothers don't take the time to show love to their sisters. Keep being there for her, and you will find that you have an extremely strong bond as she gets older.

This is perfectly normal and kind of sweet. My youngest daughter does this to my husband and her uncle. She thinks it feels funny. There's no reason to tell her no. Next time she does it you might want to ask her questions. Do you know what that is called? (stubble). How does that feel?(funny, rough, strange?) Ask her what she thinks of it. You might get a good laugh over it. You sound like a nice older brother.

your sister is only 6 she may not know that touching someone affectionatly could be wrong. it just seems like she is showing she loves you or she just likes the stubble. when my husband and my little girl is playing around and hes tickling her she will actually ask for him to "tickle her neck" she is only 4 so she doesnt know that that could be inappropriate but when my husband doesnt shave for a few days he gets the stubble and he rubs his chin on her cheek and neck and she will just laugh until she cant anymore. when i was little like her i loved my father to do the same thing. for your sister she may just be wondering why your face is so rough and not smooth like your moms

It seems like that is her way of giving you affection. At six she has a lot of tactile energy built up and loves different textures and feelings. By stroking your cheek she is reinforcing her affection for you and satisfying her curiousity and tactile needs.

If it makes you uncomfortable, however, then ask her to stop.

I don't think its a problem. I remember when I was a kid I would love to feel my dad's stubble on my check when I hugged him and I would often rub his stubble with my hand or trace over it with my fingers. It's a texture thing.

no. its normal. shes only 6. I know its kind of uncomfortable becuase shes your sister. But she just likes it because she probably doesn't have stubble. lol. Its something new to her. Not soft like everything else she knows about. Her skin is soft, yours isn't. if it bothers you, then tell her, in a nice way, that you don't liek that.

She's just showing affection. Maybe she sees you as some kind of role-model.... which I guess is a good thing, and that's her way of showing affection toward you. I mean, come on she's only six and probably doesnt know any better. I hope it helps

I think it's adorable that you even read to her. Most siblings, especially teens, wouldn't think of doing that for their little sister or brother.

She's showing affection and reaching out to you. Let her, it's sweet!!

I think its okay. She likes doing it an its not sick. SO what is the problem? If it bothers you because it seems weird then you need to investigate that in yourself. What you can do to stop her is say "ow ow ow that hurts" and mabye she wont do it anymore..otherwise I find there is nothing rong with that.
