Get one of those little homemedic fountains. They are only about 35 dollars and more ornamental than the cat bowls that keep the water running. My cats LOVE the fountain and it keeps them out of things like the plants, fish tank etc.. Cats just really prefer aerated water and I'm guessing your tank has a pump. Give them another option and I'll bet they leave poor fishy alone. Good Luck!

It is a good idea to punish your cats when you spot them doing this, but it will take time for it to sink in. Try putting the tank in a spot the cats cant reach, a room where your cats aren't allowed in, or an enclosed place where there is nowhere the cats could stand to rink from the bowl. If worst comes to worst, you may have to consider buying a tank tall enough to be able to have the flowers fully covered, so the cats cant get to the water

Well this can't be too healthy for the Cats. I don't think I would drink fish water. You really need to get a covered fish bowl.
Cats can get so many diseases from bad water. And to re-interest your cats to drink their own water I would suggest one of those continuous flow water dishes

Try geting a tank with a lid. I had to deal with that with my cat. Patrick (the fish) was freaking!!! You could also put Chianti in a different room that you close the door to so the cats can't get in. Good Luck!!

Is it a fish bowl, or a tank with water running from a filter? My cats like to drink form my tank too. Cats like fresh running water, maybe you could get a drinkwell fountain for the cat. You can get them at petsmart, i think they are about 30 or 40 dollars.

I hear ya. Last year, my ex gave me a rose for Valentines Day, which I put in a glass of water next to my bed, on my elevated nightstand. My cat discovered it, and to this day, she is obsessed with drinking water out of this glass. She stands on her hind legs to reach it, and I have to refill it twice a day. (I'm afraid she'll drink it too low, and get her head stuck in it!) She's got a perfectly good water dish next to her food, but I haven't seen her drink from it. Maybe it's an attraction to water in glass? Or the fact that it's off the floor, makes it more fun?
Don't know what to tell you about the fish's little heart though... Can you put in one of those little castles where he can hide? Good luck to you and Chianti!

I used to have a kitten that would always drink the water, it was so cute, he would drink and drink until he fell asleep and while he was sleeping we would just fill the bowl back up and when he woke up he would start drinking all over again! It was too cute. As long as they can't get to the fish it should be fine.

Cover the fish tank, move the fish tank, get your cats a water dish that has a pump that moves the water. They really like flowing water.

I've read that some cats are allergic to plastic food/water dishes - try changing to glass & drop some ice in there from time to time - that keeps it cool & it keeps them interested in their own bowls.

Cover the fish bowl dummy or give the fish to someone else to care for.
