My husband is a rookie. He gets what no one else wants. They work on a bid system and he gets last pick. He's been working there 8 months and has not had a weekend off.

That varies from department to department. I rotated my officers entire shift every couple months. The rookie office was plugged into which ever shift was short an officer. Some departments keep permanent shifts and only move an officer out of that shift when there is an opening in another shift. Rookie officers often wind up on the mid night shift.

That relies upon on the police branch. diverse departments have diverse schedules. case in point, some shifts start up at diverse cases. an afternoon shift could start up at 6:00 a.m., 7:00 a.m. 8:00 a.m. or yet over again. some officers paintings 8 hour shifts, some paintings 10, and a few paintings 12. some officers have secure shifts, and a few rotate shifts. some have secure days off, and a few do no longer. some are scheduled to paintings 5 days and then to be off 2 days, some are scheduled to paintings 4 days and then to be off 3 days, etc. some officers in some departments are area-time, and could in trouble-free terms paintings a million shift a week or much less.

My brother in law is a rookie cop...he does night shifts from 10:30pm-6:30am. He graduated top of his class in college (4 year degree), but preferred a smaller town. If he were to work in a bigger city there are more day shifts...but he said that working night is really exciting...alot more goes on from his point of view anyways. He's delt with dealers, traffic stops, and even securing a murder scene...so nights are not as slow as some would think he always tells us. Good luck!

You will work them all. Night with working weekends, days with working weekends, night no weekends, and days no weekends. You also will work the evening shift with and without working the weekends. Sometimes you will not get a weekend off for months.
