I have 2 dogs, one is an old english shepard and the othe rahs no breed since I picked up on the street. I ave had them for 7 and 10 years and they have never skin problems, but three weeks ago they sarted scratching and chewing on themselves like crazy, the shepdog even has discharge on his eyes and he´s been sad. So I know they have allergies, but the vet and I can´t figure out caused it? My neighbor is building a terrace so could it be that the dust from the concrete, sand and other materials they are using could be causing this allergie?

Allergies can be to anything in a dog - food allergies, flea allergies, skin allergies.... just like in humans. Have you changed foods recently? Might be the food that you are feeding that is making them itch. It could be the dust. Where are they itching? Is it all over their bodies, or just on the legs and belly? If they have fleas, they could be allergic to the flea saliva.

If it's not a food or flea allergy, the clinic I work for uses Atopica to help with skin allergies, and we've had GREAT success with it. Mention it to your vet, and have them check out the food/flea allergies too.

Hope this helps!

That could be it. Also, if you've just had carpets cleaned, or you just switched detergents, your dogs could be having reactions to that (if they are inside dogs). I would say, to get the reaction you are seeing, it would have to be something that they can't get away from and that is very prevalent. Concrete dust causes a lot of dryness of the skin from contact, so it oculd be that that is causing them to itch so much.

Could be mites.

Think back to about a week before they started showing symptoms, and try to remember what changed in their lives. Carpet cleaning, new furniture, weather change, in/out change, food, vaccinations, new perfume, etc. Best of luck.
