I can't make my chihuahua eat dog food. She was sick for a couple of days so i started to give her chicken with rice and now she doesn't want to eat her dog food no more. If I don't make her chicken she won't eat. How can I make her eat her food again?

I would try putting chicken broth over her food for a few days. I know mine are picky eaters. I thought my oldest one was going to starve, because he would not eat well. I finally found Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul, and now they both eat pretty good, but a 6lb bag of dog food still last between 2-3 weeks with 2 Chi's eating the food.

She will not starve herself but she will push for the tasty people food. Start by mixing some in with her dry food, then less and less until just on her food.

There are some really good moist foods. But they should be mixed in with some dry, in small amounts. Dogs need dry food to help keep teeth cleaner, make sure the size of nuggets is right for a small mouth. Chihuahuas can be finicky and will push to get their way, if allowed.

I think chihuahuas are normally picky eaters. What has worked for me was reducing the amount of chicken and rice every day by a little bit and adding in small amounts of their dogfood after a week or so things were back to normal. good luck

Don't feed her anything else and leave the dry food in her bowl. When she gets hungry, she'll eat. Dogs are like children in many ways(they are both smarter than we give them credit for) and if you give into this behavior you'll never be able to discipline this dog in any way. I've had dogs all my life and I've seen this plenty of times.

***Exercise*** either vigorous play or some good long walks.Exercise will work up an appitite.
You can also mix chicken in the dog food to gradually smaller ratios untill you've returned to 100% dog food, but *exercise* is the key.
