God's faithfulness to the people of Israel is one of the major themes of the entire Hebrew Scriptures. Just about any major story has the theme of God being faithful to Israel, in spite of Israel's unfaithfulness.

God's forgiveness is, and always has been, predicated on blood sacrifice. Before Christ, he had to have the best lamb slain and burnt in offering to him.
When that was no longer enough, he needed a final, human sacrifice, and that's jesus.
However, the fact remains that god needs to be placated with blood sacrifices.
I'm so glad that it's not animals anymore.
