I personally think the best attraction is the Warner Brothers studio tour, which gives you an excellent behind the scenes look at the film industry. Also outstanding is the Hollywood History Museum in the old Max Factor building at Hollywood and Highland. It's also fun to just walk down Hollywood Boulevard and gaze at all the stars on the walk of fame.

Tips from a local - you have your Hollywood Walk of Fame, Santa Monica Pier, and Rodeo Drive, but here's some stuff that's also very "LA" but a little off the beaten path:
-The Magic Castle in Hollywood (dinner and magic shows are brilliant)
-Amoeba Music store on Sunset and Cahuenga (huge new and used record store that's fabulous)
-The Silent Movie Theater on Fairfax (live music accompanying silent films from the 1920's)
-The Palms restaurant on Hollywood Blvd (excellent, inexpensive Thai Food with an Asian Elvis impersonator performing every night at 7:30pm)

Historian Scott Michaels is in London for two weeks, but when he returns, may I recommend his Hollywood tour? Check him out at www.findadeath.com. It's funny, informative, eerie, creepy cool, and he pretty much knows everything about celebrities, living and dead. And his tour is great fun!
