This is a VERY rare breed from the former Yugoslavia. It is also sometimes referred to as the Yugoslav Mountain Dog. The original breed from the former Yugoslavia are huge (around 160 pounds). In some news reports you read about these dogs killing wolves and even a bears to protect its owner or livestock. I am looking for a breeder who breeds real Sarplaninac dogs. Has anyone here ever seen one? If so, would you know where they got it from?

I would guess that you would have to go to Yugoslavia to get one (or at the very least go to Europe). I have seen pictures of them, and they are beautiful, but they are still so rare that you will probably have a hard time finding one. The only dog that I have seen that was called a Yugoslavian Mountain Dog came from a shelter and I am 99.9% sure that it was a German Shepherd/Malamute mix.

Why do you want one? Livestock guardian breeds should really only be obtained to guard livestock and are usually way too much dog for the average owner. Great Pyrenees are more common but are also excellent deterrents.
