Yes. You can wash your hair with regular dish detergent. It is not made with the right ph for hair tho. All you really need to do is change shampoos this will strip out the shampoo build up that your mom says is on your hair. You should change shampoos every so often to get rid of this build up. Good luck.

Don't strip your hair it isn't necessary!!
If you have split ends then have those cut off and have a treatment put through your hair at the hairdressers. While you are there purchase a good shampoo and conditioner and this will be all you will need to do.
If you have a build up due to colour on colour then just make sure next time you only colour the roots of your hair and 5-10 minutes before it is due to be washed out spread the colour through to the ends of your hair.
This will prevent any further build up

Well, I've heard of this, but there are better options if you have buildup. One is to use a clarifying shampoo (Suave Clarifying is really good, and inexpensive), or mix a handful of baking soda in with your regular shampoo. Either way, use a conditioner after, cuz they're both a little drying.

I've heard of stripping your hair, but never with dish soap....if you do have build up, you should find a special shampoo to strip it, i wouldn't recommend with dish soap..
