the basis for Christianity is God so loved the world that He gave His only son to die in your place. so God loves you, even while you were yet a sinner.
but though He loves you, you must meet a requirement to have fellowship with Him......that is acceptance of the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ......so go for it!
