If you think love and money is all that pastoring and being responsible for a Church is about you are insane. It is alot of hard work, on-call 24/7, crisis intervention, stress, everybody's problems and all their friends and relatives problems and their cats and dogs too become your problems. They are expected to have a red hot "new" message every single service. They are to see to it that everyone has the right fellowship opportunities so they won't be bored or lonely. They are to be all wise and have all answers. They are never to be down, have a bad day, feel bored, lonely, sad or frustrated. Hospital visits, shut in visits, outside ministries (like rest homes), prayer for the sick in their home (exposing themselves to the germs). Calls at all hours of the day and night. Strangers dropping by with the craziest and off the wall stories wanting free money handouts. They don't want real help that will help them change their lives permanently for the better - just money (and that is constant). Then there is the administration issues. Board meetings, budgets to balance, literature and supply issues, outreach to down and outers. Counseling, conferences, and all the "can I just talk with you in your office..." requests. Reports to "headquarters," their own continuing education requirements and visitor follow ups, new converts class, baptisms, discipleship classes, prayer sessions, and then the meetings required by their fellowship with the heirarchy. Most Pastors I know don't take full salary because the needs of the Church outweigh the income (one Pastor doesn't take any salary - lives off secular work - which means double the work). It is an endless and often thankless job but they do it because they are called by God and they obey out of love to Him. Many Pastors suffer "burn out" because of the constant bombardment of needs and the load of work. So before you judge - find out the facts.

The same way you become a Christian in the first place. Renounce everything you were clinging on to for security, and fully trust in Christ. Then seek the fellowship of like-minded people to love the world unselfishly.

Begin serving others.
The word "minister" means a low servant.
Matt 23:9-12
call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
