before the root canal procedure, the dentist will numb the are with local anthestic. You usually will not feel anything and after the dentist have completed the root canal and the numbness wear off. You might feel softy and lightness around the teeth

It actually doesn't hurt at all, I've had 4 of them and having teeth pulled actually hurts more. I just went to the dentist a couple of days ago because I need another root canal, this time, the tooth was infected. The only way it hurts is if it is infected. Your dentist should provide you with an antibiotic before doing that type of work. I, personally, went in Tuesday and it was so swollen that it wouldn't even get numb even after like 10 shots of the numby stuff. He drained it, I went home, and now it doesn't hurt. I still need one, but now it won't bother me because the infection is gone. I hope I could help. Don't be afraid, it's nothing.

Does it hurt your mouth? Yes a little - Does it hurt your hip pocket? Yes a lot. I recently was told to go for root canal but decided to have it surgically removed under general. The specialist told me no - way was a root canal going to work for that tooth. I know a lot will hate me for saying this - but if you can live without the tooth get rid of it. Root canal doesn't always work and they don't like to tell you that!! Well it works for your dentist holiday fund!
Cheers and good luck!

I had a root canal 6 months ago, and I was scared to death because I thought it would hurt. They gave me the novacaine and started working on me and before I knew it, it was over. I was surprised because I felt no pain at all. The technology is so good these days that you should not feel any pain at all.

Not for me. I've had quite a few cavities and getting the root canal was easier than getting a normal filling.

Any dental work is uncomfortable. Once you're mouth is frozen though, you shouldn't feel any pain. If you are type that is scared horribly by the dentist or needles, some dentists will prescribe an "anti-anxiety" pill to help relax you before the procedure. Practising deep breathing before you go and while you are in the dentist chair helps also.
Good luck!

It's similar to getting a regular filling-they numb you first, then drill. Yes, there might be a tiny bit of discomfort, but not bad. They remove the nerve from that tooth. Then a temp filling goes on. A couple weeks or so later, you go back in and get the job finished-a cap or whatever. Take care.

Even though the dentist administers a Local Anaesthetic, a RCT does hurt a wee bit initially. This is just during the initial period. After that its a steal!

They will give you an injection before the procedure. So you will not feel a thing.
Some dentist also gives nitrous oxide (laughing gas). It is a sedative. You will be in a dream world.
