It may be necessary for you to file a substitute W2. Speak with an income tax specialist (i.e. H & R Block) or read from the listings below.

The employer is required to send W2s by January 31, generally. The fact that he/she cannot be located is a bad signal. It may be necessary for you to contact the IRS for instructions directly. They may be reached at 1-800-TAX-1040. If the amounts specified on the W-4 form provided at the point of hire is recalled, the rest may be calculated unless there is a great discrepancy of amounts from one week to the next. Another way to obtain information regarding wages receives may be obtained via your State's Department of Employment Security (Labor and Workforce Development) or the Social Security Administration. It will probably require some research and possibly rebuilding the amounts withheld based upon somewhat 'sketchy' information; however, it is better to attempt to claim it than to give up and owe money that will ultimately affect your relationship with the IRS.

Contact the better business bureau to have something on record that you are attempting to get the W2 - also pull your bank statements to show the amount of income deposited per month. You will still be required to file regardless of the fact that the company is MIA and you had a flood.

by Jan 31st you have not received your W2, call the employer and ask them if they have been sent. If by Feb 15th you have not received it, call the Internal Revenue Service at 1-800-829-1040 and file a W2 complaint. They wil take a report and send you a form that you can use as a subsitute, you will need your last paycheck stub when you call, along with the name, address and phone# of the employer and what dates you worked for them
