same as us nurse, 8 hour shifts are 7a-3p, 3p-11p, 11p-7a, or 12 hour shifts 7a-7p and 7p-7a. unless of course you had a desk job or investigation that is an on call plus 4o hours.

When you're a cop, you are one 24 hours a day.

The shifts can vary. My husband works 3:00pm-11:30pm. He does four days on, two off, four on, two off...so his days off back up a day every week. (That way the same guys don't always have weekends off, etc.)
He's also worked the 11:00pm-7:30am shift, and the 7:00am-3:30pm shift.

Varies, most patrolmen work rotating shifts. Detectives work accordingly to the the cases they are given to solve.
