The last person's right that you may need help. Who to turn to? Hmm, sounds like we're your first line of help...

Personally, I understand cutting is often a way of sekeing 'release' - from frustration or internal pain (like emotional pain). But the thing is, it doesn't solve anything. So it's NOT a good solution - the same way drugs aren't.

When things go wrong - and often they will - people try to find ways to get a sense of release from pressure, an 'escape' of some sort. While we'd all like that, the ways people try to get it may not be good for them - and may even cause more hurt than help. For example, anorexia or bulimia are sometimes ways people try to 'control' something (something, something, anything! they scream, and reach for their scales and appearance as that form of something), but they end up hurting themselves instead of getting things they really want to change.

What makes you feel like cutting? Peer pressures get you down? Family fighting? School too much? Perhaps you're depressed or anxious about something or someone.

If it's persisting (and it's pain, not curiosity) --- you'll know a good book, a good movie, or a good chat with a family member or friend won't help. If that's the story, you do need to find someone you trust and tell them about the feelings. Try to talk with them about what's making you feel interested in cutting, more than about cutting. The deep needs to understand and change are what's stressing you out and how you can find better ways to cope.

You can do this! you can find new ways to feel better!

Best wishes to you, and don't give up. In fact, if you need to really slow things down and get your thoguhts together (because it might be hard to talk about), you could write your worries down in a letter to share with the person you trust (your parent, your older sister, someone like that - an aunt or uncle?)...

Change to better times can be ahead. Make it happen. You can't change other people and things; you can change the way you react to them.

The need to cut is caused by a very low self-esteem, and you're screaming out for help. You must be feeling really yucky and depressed about everyday life.
I've also heard that while a person is "cutting", endorphins or the "feel good" hormones are released from the brain making you get a rush while you're cutting. Self-mutilation is a very troubling mental issue for which very intense counselling is needed. If you're parents don't understand, or get mad at you, find someone else that you trust, and will help you get the help you need. Please do so before you start hurting yourself. You're worth it. Every person is entitled to be happy and healthy, especially you!
God Bless you and PLEASE talk to a trusted person before you hurt yourself.

I used to cut, so I know the feeling all too well. Try not to cut, though... it just adds to the things that you feel you need to hide and/or be guilty about. You might try doing something that does not cause permanent damage, like sticking your hand in a snowbank until it hurts like hell.

Cutting used to help me out because it was my way of punishing my transgressions... like when a fight would start in my family, my parents would never blame me, but I knew it was my fault, so I cut myself. It also helped me to feel compassion; one of my best friends is a medical wreck and has a very rough life, and I could only even start to understand her when I burned myself.

But anyway, I highly suggest that you do NOT self injure any more. It is very hard to stop, I know, but si tends to make things a lot worse, what with having to always hide it. Good luck.

Whatever the context or reason, self-injury seems to function as a coping mechanism for some. "Cutters" use self-harm to feel calm, "in control," or just to "feel something." However, self-injury is not a healthy coping mechanism - it is a self-destructive behavior that probably reflects deeper, more complicated mental health or personal problems.

To keep yourself from doing this you need to talk to a school counselor or someone else. You also need to figure out why it is that you want to cut yourself. Why do you feel bad about yourself. If you start working on yourself and why you feel the way you do then you can get past it.

You must be traumatized from something. Cutting is a relief from inner pain. Bringing the pain to the surface. It's not healthy, the best way to bring it to the surface is to discuss it. If not with your parents then with another trusted source. Don't hurt yourself. Mo.

See a doctor or a school counsellor. Cutting is not normal and you need help.

It doesn't help in any way. It becomes a habit and gets steadily worse. You need help for anger and depression. Talk to your counselor or your family Dr.
