Like everybody says - Bacteria growth is a big problem for uncooked lobster that is lethargic or dead!

I have a very guilt-free method of cooking lobster if you don't want to put them in the boiling water yourself! -

Boil the Water and sit them next to the pot - Put on a sad Michael Bolton CD really loud, and they'll jump into the pot themselves! haha (just kidding!)

A lot of times I'll cheat and have the grocer or fish place steam them for me - it's a lot less mess too! (although pre-boil Lobster Races can be fun!)

(I'm serving Lobster for Valentines Day! (YUM!)

in case you p.c. you are able to tear the top or chop it off and then upload it to the water , whether this equipment can now and back make the lobster no longer trouble-free... Sorry, however the right thank you to prepare dinner a sparkling lobster is to place the top in first, the gas that a4re interior the lobster will make a hissing sound ,yet yet that may no longer a scream for help... whether if that still bothers you , you need to purchase frozen lobster and prepare dinner for 3 to 5 min till crimson and juicy.. attempt a million/2 and a million/2 wine and water you may relish it greater .. And if that bothers you basically flow out to dinner. sturdy success.

MsE is almost right. Lobsters are extremely perishable and the toxins start building up before the lobster is dead. I know this is almost an oxymoron, but you should only kill lobsters that are very alive. A lethargic lobster is a dangerous lobster.

Restaurants in Asia:

Crabs, tortoises, fish, frogs, prawns are dunked into boiling water, chopped or de-shelled, de-skinned... while they are still ALIVE.

One time a Chinese fine dine restaurant served a whole fish dish with the head of the fish still alive (eyes still staring at me) and the rest of the body cooked to perfection. Still wonder how they did that. Why? Ultra fresh!!

Lobster like other seafood do not have a nervous system therefore, do not feel pain. If they die before cooking they release a toxin and can be poisonous for consumption.

You can kill them first. Usually by inserting a knife into their brains. Boiling lobsters is usually not all of that painful for them as their nerves are not the same as ours.

But I don't eat seafood, so all I know is from Alton Brown.

Bacteria starts to build up in shellfish as soon as they die. So, they must be kept on ice and alive until cooked and eaten or frozen within two or three days to avoid foodborne illness.

Sometimes they are; chop them in half lengthwise, then chopp off their heads and rinse their intestines out. Supposedly it is less painfull for them to be thrown in boiling water. Who really knows which is the nicest, all I know is I perfer crab!

Does it really matter. They are going to die the second they go in the pot. I don't think knocking them in the head with a hammer or the back of a knife would feel any better. Maybe we should insist on lethal injection, or the gas chamber.
