Had virus, malware, or something, then pop-up hapened, and took over computer. I paid someone to clean it up, but later got a bill from "chargemelater", and now a collection agency (CRB).

I don't need bad credit, but hate to pay for a scam. Any suggestions?

IF you did not authorize the charge then DON'T pay the bill ... tell them you DENY the charge and to go ahead and sue you because you DISPUTE the bill .. they can't prove it so they will go away!

Did you file a police report? Any fraud or scam, even on the internet, should be reported to the local police so that they can be made aware of the situation and it helps you later down the road if it happens to pop up again.
Go talk with your local detective in charge of fraud and he will be able to help you out, that's why we pay taxes ;)

First of all, do NOT delete the emails that you get from them!!!! Save them on a secure folder on your computer. This will help protect you later on in the case of a legal motion. If you are getting a bill from them, call the creditor that you are recieving the bill from, and tell them that you did not authorize this charge to take place on your computer. If you dispute the claim with confidence, some of them will immediately aplologize, clear the account and delete it. (Shows how shallow they are, also.) Many spammers often rely on computer users to NOT read the "fine print" before installing software on their computer. Many spammers can "phish" for email addresses, IP addresses, and other sensitive information from your computer. Often, spyware, IP address trackers, dialers (a program that is designed to route your computer to dial a international number for an astronomical fee.) and other forms of malicious and sometimes VERY illegal software can be distributed on your computer, and you can be charged with it. Make sure that you NEVER EVER comply to pay a bill that you have recieved from an internet company that you are not familiar with. This is what these degnerates often prey upon. Threats, criminal prosecution, and threats to denounce you to your employers or families can be employed by these people whose sole purpose is to scam money from people that are unsuspecting or not internet savy. Theses practices are VERY VERY ILLEGAL!!! This is not meant to insult you, and I do not mean to. These words are meant to get you more self-aware of your surroundings on the internet. Do not EVER EVER download software that you are unfamiliar with, no matter what it says about how it can help you. Make sure that your bank info is as safe as your first born child. And do not ever give personal information to people that you do not have a legitamate account with. Call your local FBI Office and ask for the computer crimes division. They do have one. Every region has a computer crimes division. Ask them about this incident and ask for further advice regarding the matter. Believe me, they will help you. I had to call the one in Milwaukee, and they gave me some good information about a matter one time. And also purchase reputable, reliable anti-virus internet software. Windows One-Care or Norton's Internet Security, the latest versions, are extrememly good! I hope that this helps you. Good luck to you. Later!
