not including traffic and with traffic times by a car?

Check with yahoo maps, as it will depend on exactly what part of San Jose you are leaving from.

It tells me 49 minutes which assumes no traffic

If no traffic, about 45 minutes each way. With traffic, it could take 2 hours or more easily, possibly 3 on a bad day with wrecks.

depending on where in San Jose you are starting from...probably about an hour on a good day.

on a bad day? two hours? three hours? depends on what's happening on the freeways. you would be driving 880, and that freeway is ridiculous through Oakland and Fremont as it is.
