It really should be phrased the earlier you file your return, the quicker you will get your refund. As it gets closer and closer to April 15 (17 this year), more and more people will file their returns. This means that it takes the IRS longer to go through those returns. Although if you e-file, since the return does not have to be manually keyed into the computer system by a data entry clerk, and is processed automatically by the computer, it is not as susceptible to delays.

Yes it is true, the earlier you send in your return, the faster the processing time.

The heavy period for tax returns is in late March thru April 15th.

You will also receive your tax return faster if you can use the 1040ez form.

If you can use the IRS Teletax number to do your tax return it will also speed up your refund.

Or if you have your tax return direct deposited into your checking account.

I mailed my tax return last sat the 10th, I expect to have my refund by the end of next week. About 10 working days.

The sooner you file, assuming that nothing flags your return when it gets to the IRS, the sooner you'll get your refund if you have one coming. It doesn't matter which form you file, and usually won't matter when in the tax season you file.

It is true that the sooner you do your taxes, the sooner you will receive your refund. We got ours in just over a week. (E-filed January 31)

The IRS can't start working on it until you complete it and send it in. So of course, the sooner you do your thing the sooner they can do theirs.
