I'm planning a trip Manhattan, specifically the East Village and wanted to know what good restaurants there are. Thanks!

The East Village has so many good restaurants - wonderful neighborhood for restaurants - so many really good, inexpensive places - great variety. There are a few restaurants that are definitely not in the inexpensive category, but they are so good, one I really like is:
Hearth on 12th and First Avenue (I could live on their chocolate trifle):

Lucky Cheng's, First Avenue and Houston - not cheap and not the greatest food, but it's fun place - the servers are beautiful drag queens.

John's on 12th and Second Avenue - outstanding pizza!

Lots of Thai restaurants in the East Village - I like the Sea Bistro on Second Avenue and Holy Basil, further up on Second Avenue on 9th Street (upstairs)

The Mermaid Inn - very fresh, well prepared seafood - friendly waitstaff. Outstanding lobster roll, seafood stew. No desserts, but everyone gets a little cup of chocolate pudding after their meal.

I Copi on 9th and Avenue A - outstanding Italian food. Sunday brunch is a huge bargain - the best spaghetti carbonara

Cacio & Pepe Second Avenue and 12th Street - Very good pastas - they serve a pasta called cacio & pepe - it's served in a hollowed wheel of cheese - very tasty - salt and peppery

Il Buco on Bond off Lafayette - outstanding pastas, and if they have the suckling pig on the menu, try it

La Palapa Cocina on St Mark's off First Avenue - good, inexpensive Mexican food (there's a very good Korean restaurant right there, too)

Flor's Kitchen on First Avenue and 9th Street - Venequelan arapas - very well made - good fish dishes- very small and can get very crowded - Flor opened a restaurant in the West Village that has more room

Jules Bistro on St Mark's and First Avenue - live jazz - inexpensive prix fixe before 7 - good choices. They make a great creme brulee.

And, speaking of great creme brulee, there is a dessert restaurant (all desserts - you can get a three course dessert dinner) Chickalicious on 10th and First Avenue

Boca Chica on First Avenue and First Street - latin restaurant - very lively - fried yucca is wonderful

Tibetan restaurant on 10th Street

Not a restaurant: but you should try Pommes Frites on Second Avenue and 6th Street - incredible french fries - with lots of toppings - all they sell are fries.

Crif dogs on St Mark's - good hot dogs and shakes.

Best egg creams: a candy stand across the street from Tompkins Square Park on Avenue A and 6th Street.

I haven't recommended any Indian restaurants - I don't like any of the Curry Lane (6th Street) restaurants.

Stay away from Dojo - one of the filthiest bathrooms I've ever seen.

Here are a couple that I have had great experiences with in trips to Manhatten-I'm not sure what kind of food you like so I put a range of different cuisines-

If you looking for pizza, you must go to 'Five Roses Pizza' Its amazing! Bagel Cafe Ray's Pizza is great as well
If you like Italian, I highly reccomend 'Lanza's'.
A great sushi place is called ' Esashi'
Good luck and enjoy!
