Let's say in 200 years one of it's many threats annihilates Earth. Then let's say by that time, we are prepared to inhabit another planet. Would you credit fate for giving us the technology, or coincidence?

I seemed to have caused a stir for those that are religious. I sense you saw this question and said something to the affect of "well I never!" Here's an idea for those that can't be open minded. Don't answer. Sorry that you can't preach to everybody.

Neither. It's not going to happen.

In Genesis 11:4 following the devastation of the earth caused by the flood, they thought they'd try another planet, but God didn't think much of their plan. He messed up their tower and scattered them upon the face of the earth.

Man was given dominion over THIS planet, and to this planet are men tethered unless they are "born from above" into the family of the Son of God. Only then can you have a different heritage and destiny.

All those who reject Yeshua the Messiah will remain with the earth until it falls into a black hole (called the lake of fire in the Bible).

Choose or lose.

It would not necessarily be coincidence since the destruction of the planet would most likely be related to an imbalance in technological evolution relative to philosophical evolution.

twist of fate. Too many human beings use destiny as an excuse for failure in relationships. First you're fated to be mutually, then you definately basically weren't meant to be mutually. the subsequent time a woman talks to me approximately destiny, i think of i will basically save on strolling.

I suppose it would be a great coincidence that all the end-of-the-world believers and the atheists could be made happy in one fell swoop!

Fate is an irrational rationalization for coincidence.

I'd probably give all the credit to Jack Bauer. That guy can do anything.

I'd call it bad luck, at least for the critters living on the new planet.
