It's because it is dry in your home. You should try getting a humidifier. You can also use hand lotion on your hands so when you pet the cat the lotion moisturizes the cats hair and you don't produce static.

I use the dryer sheet method that someone else mentioned. My cat is very static-y too, especially lately since it's been pretty dry. Your cat might not like it very much but it will help for awhile.
If you can't get a humidifier, another option is to boil a big pot of water on your stove and just keep it boiling. It will help too.

someone reported I carry a garments dryer sheet in my pocket for dry days at the same time as static electricity will be a issue. i don't understand why it type of feels to paintings, besides the undeniable fact that it does. I rub my fingers on the cloth in the previous touching my horses (or the barn cats. in case you imagine horses don't like that little cost, contact a cat's ear once you're passing round static electricity! Yow!). It does look to paintings to boot on neutralizing the static in the barn because it does in the dryer. Oh, and being 'thrifty', I used a used dryer sheet, and it type of feels to paintings effective! similar individual informed me to apply the dryer sheet to repel flies and mosquitoes, too. I do rub my horse with it in the previous driving in the woods at the same time as the deer flies are thick , and it does look to help there too.

When you brush your cat, spray some "Static Guard" or something of the sort on the brush first... it can help with the static on the cat's fur.

My cats are the same way...its due to the dry air in the winter. You can buy a spray at Petsmart or you can rub her down with a fabric softener sheet...or so I heard

Do not rub him with a dryer sheet!!!! Cats are constantly cleaning themselves and the chemicals from the dryer sheet can make him sick!!!
Get a humidifier.

This may sound strange, but rub him with a one of those dryer sheets :) I did that to my dog once or twice when his fur had this charge to it.
It won't stop the charge from coming back though. You'll have to teach your cat to stop walking on carpet for that. But this gives some relief!

If you can afford it, get a humidifier. Otherwise, I find using hand lotion regularly (or even Vaseline) helps a lot. The best answer is humidifying the air though.
