About 1 month ago I financed a set of braces for myself because my dentist told me that I needed to correct my overbite and several bottom crooked teeth.I asked him about invisilign and he said that it was not an option for me because of the alignment of the top and bottom teeth.I am 32 years old with a very good job dealing with people throughout the day. At the time it seemed like the right choice to make, but I am now afraid to go through the process. My next appointment is in 2 days to have them installed.Should I run?

I had braces twice..once as a child and the other as an adult. As an adult, I found that I was less self-conscious if I made jokes about the braces. Also, as an adult I had porceline uppers. In my opinion they looked great from far away (if you give lots of presentations as part of your job they would be hardly noticeable), but a little weird up close. If you have the braces installed and feel terribly uncomfortable, you can always have them removed. One other things to ask about...sometimes you can get the braces put on the back of your teeth. I think that they are called lingual braces or something to that effect. You might want to ask about them. after that long-winded answer... I say rock your metal (or porceline) mouth. Braces are pretty quick and the results are so worth it! Personally, I'm more self-conscious about my overbite and crooked teeth then I am about wearing braces for 3 years or so.

No, you shouldn't

My uncle is about 50 years old. He makes over $100 an hour teaching at colleges, and gives speeches. He also works at the largest online advertising company (atlas). He deal with people all day, and is high up on the corporate ladder. He had braces for about 2 years. I think he just got them off a couple months ago.

Get the braces. Remember, this is about your teeth, not the feelings of other people.

Anyways, if you change your mind, you can always get them removed. They might charge you for everything, but they can't really force you to keep them on.

Good luck!

And don't be so nervous! Plenty of adults have braces!

Before you get them put on, why don't you get a second opinion? Are your overbite and crooked teeth causing you pain or other trouble? Have you talked with him about other possibilities to fix your teeth? If you are having a lot of doubt, there is probably a reason. If your teeth are causing problems, then go ahead and get them fixed. If not, think about this- Would Lauren Hutton be the same if she had gotten her teeth fixed?
In this day and age, everybody seems obsessed with perfection, so it's good to have something to set you apart. It might be that your teeth are what make you distinctly YOU. (Ask Jennifer Grey about her nose job)

What are your concerns? Braces are becoming more common even among people older than you. I think people look fine with braces. I don't think others care whether or not you have them. Many will even see it as a positive thing you are doing for yourself. Straightening your teeth will usually improve your appearance and make your teeth last longer. You won't regret the improvement, if it is truly necessary. Still, I would get a second opinion before proceeding with anything this serious, (especially considering how much it will cost).

postpone the appointment and get a second opinion about the invisible braces. Though Tom Cruise had to wear real braces just a year or two ago and one would think that he would have the best orthodontics out there.

Don't run. It's really not that bad. Just think of the end result and how much happier you'll be with how you look, remember you agreed to it for a reason. Just remember to wear your retainer when you're done with the braces, that was my mistake and now I have to get them again, but I will because it's not that bad. Good luck.

you definetly don't want crooked teeth especally if you deal with people with your job because that is one thing they will remember, your teeth. so you don't have to have metal braces ask your ortho if he carries the clear bracets. my brother got braces when he was a freshman in highschool and didn't what to look like a geek so he got them and you can barly notice them. the bad is they are more expensive. but it is the price you pay for good teeth

I had braces, you will be fine. It may take a couple weeks to get use to but you will and soon it will be like they aren't there. You are making a good investment in yourself by taking such good care of your teeth.
