I'm in the same boat as you...for me what works best is exercise, I run 5 km and then walk back on the beach another 5. I Iive in Thailand and the fact that it's sunny everyday does help however....

But after doing that I feel energized and all my problems seem a lot smaller.

You also have to stay off the booze, that really gets me down.

Addtionally, DOING stuff helps, make a list, and then DO things to make your life better, cross them out as you go, very therapeutic.

Get a girlfriend if you can, that also helps.

Find out the cause of the depression and try to find steps to fix it, you say you have money problems? I'll bet that if you fix that you'll cut your depression in half at least.

My girlfriend in pharmacy school did a study on OCD recently. There is a type of therapy where you are exposed to your obsessions but are not allowed to follow through with your compulsions. I forget what this is called, but you may be able to get the answer from a doctor. Eventually, you just end up training your brain to block out your various obsessions. Therefore, this wouldn't require medication. As far as tourettes, I don't know. With depression, you may be able to eat certian types of foods to change your mood. I found this with a quick search, "Eating fat-containing foods, like chocolate, trigger the release of endorphins and lift a person's mood. Other happy foods such as milk, chicken, bananas and leafy green vegetables may produce pleasant feelings because they stimulate the release of the neurotransmitter dopamine." This may however not help with moderate to severe depression. It may not help at all, but it is something to keep in mind if you don't want to take medication. As always, as your doctor before you decide to follow anyones advice.

I think you can be managed well with meds, since you refuse, why do you post this question when you know most people will probably think you should take meds? People who seek help and then don't follow suggestions of professionals? What's up with that? And then people wonder what's wrong?

Go to: http://www.emedicinehealth.com and http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medicineplus/ency and enter those terms singly. View the blogs of Shan Eris on "tackling depression" at www.myspace.com (http://www.myspace.com/7087317) and also enter those terms in the bar near the top of the home page for that website, and consider joining a support group of similar sufferers at myspace; groups or Yahoo; groups or Google; groups, maybe start your own. Try the WebFerret search engine, or your own, and the Google & Wikipedia websites, then try your library. Also: www.relax7.com/7.php

Either therapy or meds. Try taking some of the weaker meds first and see how that goes.

If you refuse to take meds, you'll just have to suffer I guess.

Take medication and seek counseling. Why suffer?
