I don't think being an achiever or a loser has anything to do with the saying. A person is still the same person, no matter what they may change their name to. I think some people may change their name because they don't like the one they were given. (Sight unseen, which female would you rather meet - one named Gertrude or oned name Jennifer? Names do have certain "images" attached to them whether we like it or not.) Or actors take on "stage names" that are more glamorous or catchy than their given names. Most women take their husband's last name when they marry. It's an indication of what "family group" they belong to. In some societies names are just a way of keeping track of who's who. People in several countries only go by one name. So why be concerned with a name. Shakespeare wrote, "...a rose by any other name would smell as sweet...".

Your name is primarily a credit bank. A storehouse of acts which are used by others to define you. For their benefit and yours also.
Your name is the tie to your past actions and so is used by others to predict or pre-judge what you will do.
A person's name is their reputation. In the old days people might have never traveled more than one hundred miles in their lifetime. Their word was their bond and it really mattered a lot what kind of reputation preceded you. These days it still matters but not as much and so technology has reduced the importance of an age old societal value.
Those in occupations requiring considerable trust need to guard their reputations very well. Trust takes a long time to build and is easily destroyed.
Of course a person can always move or change their name. Many people do just that to escape the consequences of bad actions which have tainted their reputation.
A name is what you make it.

Well people that change their names for numerological reasons are weird. Because even in Numerology, they go by the name given to you at birth! People have multiple names when they are criminals and they've tarnished their first name so they have to change it or they will go to jail. And there are cases when people are being hunted by others trying to kill them and they have to change their identity (which includes their name) to hide. And that's about it. Personally I don't think there is much "in the name", it's just how people identify you. But in numerology they say that your name was not an accident and it was chosen for you because of a plan and you can have a peek into your life plan by figuring out what your birth name means.

People usually change their name because they don't like it or it didn't fit them at all. If you have a name you hate, you would tend to have lower self-esteem as opposed to someone who feels good about the sound of their own name.

The Name is what get's you an interview vs. getting your resume tossed in the trash.
if your parents named you something out of the ordinary, you should consider getting it changed. There was never a CEO of a Fortune 500 company or a President with a strange name.

A man's death is more important than his birth.
When a man is born, he has achieved nothing.
Hopefully, by the time he dies, he has done great things.
(Ecclesiastes 7:8) Better is the end afterward of a matter than its beginning. Better is one who is patient than one who is haughty in spirit.
