Many people are gathered and seperated into two distinctive groups. The people in one group are wearing matching clothes and the poeple in the other group are spectators. Everyone will leave once the first group has taken off an article of clothing and thrown it as far as they can.
Why are these people gathered and which article of clothing will be thrown?

They are graduating from high school, and will take off their caps and throw them. After it's done, the spectators (family / friends) will leave.

graduation of course...a lot of people also throw off their hats after winning a baseball game
