If you are a theist, wouldn't you be more comfortable in a religion or set of beliefs that is flexible enough to accommodate scientific discoveries?

Obviously, this question is directed toward members of mainstream religions - most of which are based on books written long before the age of scientific advances. This is not intended as an attack, so please don't pretend it's another example of "persecution."

At what point will the followers of these religions become embarassed enough to either abandon these binding beliefs, or at least change the disproven dogma? Is it really a good form of worship to continue believing in something when our own god-given abilities have proven it to be wrong?

I am NOT suggesting an end to the belief in God. I myself am a theist, but in my religion there are only basic ethics, not rigid dogma from the pens of the ancients.

You make a lot of sense.

I think there are a lot of people in the world who fear change and who want something that never changes as a source of comfort. This is the reason why so many religions are so rigid.

You are right if it was a Man-Made religion, definitely it requires UPDATES to compensate for the NEW scientific discoveries and LINGUISTIC changes.

But if the religions is sent by GOD who knows the future then it DEFINITELY will be ERROR-FREE and always current with Times.

That is what exactly Islam is. Check the Quran...

1) Any language has an update in its vocabulary every 50-100 years. Most of the words that were used 50-100 years in English are NOT valid today.

Similarly there have been numerous new words that have been added to it.

NOW...

NOT EVEN A SINGLE WORD USED IN THE QURAN HAS BECOME OBSOLETE...

The Quran is a living language. If it was written by a human, it could have died, as many words used were sure to become dead after 50-100 years.

What about the QUran???

1427 years have passed... EACH WORD IN THE QURAN IS STILL ALIVE AND IS STILL USED BY ARABS. TIME CAN NOT DESTROY QURAN AS IT HAS BEEN SENT BY THE CREATOR.

2) The Quran has information that was discovered and PROVED by Modern Science ONLY today.

Many Scientific discoveries that were done in the past 100-200 years have been mentioned in the Quran 1427 years before.

It is well known that Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) himself was an illiterate man. How could an illiterate man produce such detailed descriptions about Embryology, Physics, Water Cycle, Creation of the Universe etc???

The Answer is simple, it is INDEED a word of GOD.

Watch these facts for yourself and then decide.

there is no longer something contradictory approximately what's interior the Bible and what technological understanding says on the 2nd. a million. The Bible mentioned that God created the universe, no longer *how* He did it. 2. The Bible would not say that Adam and Eve have been the 1st people. The Bible says that Adam and Eve have been the 1st people made in such as God. *** diverse. *** What has led you to no longer have faith the Bible is the certainty which you have based your decision on the misrepresentations of the two athiests and fundementalists Christians, The Bible laughs at the two communities. circulate back and consider Genesis returned, this time be careful to no longer examine into it issues that are no longer there. attempt confusing to get rid of your prebias. and seem at this. Who do you think of is smarter? You or Moses? Moses wrote Genesis. - - - i think of Rev Neil, above, is being facetious. It replace into pre-sixteenth century technological understanding that mentioned the sunlight circled around the earth. And neither technological understanding nor faith ever mentioned the earth is flat. The Bible, in job 26:6, Is 40:22, provided that 2200 BC, mentioned that the earth replace right into a circle suspended over no longer something.

Religion and science are branches of the same tree it has been said but I firmly believe they must be kept seperate and relative
so as not to corrupt the healthy impact they have on one another.
The blending of the two is not to introduce religion into science or vice versa as that would pervert and destroy the objectivity of their relative values upon each other. I am not a theists but I recognize the moral value of religion until a better secular system of guidance is developed and also would not like to see the discipline of science ruined by too overt insistence of pseudo science by religious fanatics either. So you may see why the joining would be an act of futility and not progress.
Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind.

Basically, religion isn't about figuring out which is the truth and which is not. Religion is about understanding the wisdom between Good and Evil, prevail and transcend beyond them. We may have access to all scientific knowledges (including the universe, its beginning, etc) in the future, maybe several hundred years later. But if we are deluded with Good and Evil, we'll still be living in a self-created world of Hell. Hope you understand what I mean.

I do belong to one. it's called Christianity. We're not all Creationists. The Roman Catholic Church, Lutheran Church, ECUSA, and just about all the mainstream churches have made announcements of some kind officially accepting Evolution. Many of us don't find Evolution or the concept of God to be impossible or incompatible.
and I know many Buddhists who don't believe in Evolution, such as my in laws in Vietnam and their friends.
