I am looking for a fool-proof way to make baked spaghetti. I've had it at a restaurant-Fazoli's-and it was basically spaghetti in a dish covered in the sauce mixture and covered with mozzarella cheese. I've looked at recipes online and didn't like how it was all put together. So, I'm asking can I just make spaghetti, cover it in mozzarella cheese and bake it? Would this work?

yes but the result might be "grainy"

the best way to make macaroni and cheese is to melt real sharp Cheddar cheese into a basic white sauce:

pour some milk into a pan add salt, pepper and margarine to taste. Heat stirring constantly until near boiling. Thicken with corn starch dissolved in more milk you have prepared in advance. Pour in a little at a time stirring constantly and scraping bottom to get a smooth thick white sauce.

Add crumbled sharp Cheddar cheese until you get the cheesiness you desire.

pour over cooked spaghetti in a greased glass pan. Cover with Cheddar cheese slices for the "crust"

Bake until bubbly and brown on top.
