Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops have several combos that will work for musky and pike. A 6'6"-7' medium heavy rod with a spinning or bait casting reel is a good starting point. If you are going to do serious musky fishing and throw a lot of BIG lures you might want a rod made specifically for musky fishing.http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=90860&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=3&hvarSubCode=1&hvarTarget=browse. Here's some combos that should work fine. Good luck fishing.

I use a cheap South Bend 9 ft rod i bought at Wally World for $20. It is a medium action rod. I have a shimano open faced reel on it. It works GREAT and i didnt have to spend much at all for the rig. The length of the rod really tires them out faster and also i can work the fish alot better because of the length cuz as you might know they are always running and twisting and turning alot. I live in NW Pa and fish the Allegheny River all the time and we catch some very nice fish here. Good Luck !!!
