Morality and ethics are based on natural law. Any honest person, regardless of religious affiliation or lack thereof, can use basic human reasoning to arrive at moral truth. You should read Fides et Ratio (Faith and Reason) by Pope John Paul II. It is based on the Catholic notion that true faith and true reason cannot contradict. The master of this school of thought was Thomas Aquinas who borrowed heavily from Aristotle and Socrates.

Only purpose? I think you meant to use the word "source"?

If so, some christians believe that it is their god who is the sole source of morality and ethics. Other christians think it is possible to be both moral and ethical without belief in god.

As an atheist, I don't need to tell you which type of christian, of the above mentioned, tend to be among my friends.

Why is it that you must resort to calling me names just because I believe differently than you? Do you see me calling you names? Morals and ethics are important, but so is strength of character.

They like to say so, but they should know that if one actually followed the ethics in the bible almost all of us would be slaughter at God's command because of all the different contradicting morals in the bible.

Moral and ethics do not come from god. They come from your upbringing, your community, from within yourself, your conscience. People since the beginning of time have known the right thing to do. I don't want to get hurt, therefore I do not hurt others. I don't want my possessions stolen, therefore I do not steal. Also I do not want to be in prison! One does not need a god to tell them right from wrong.

If not for God and His teachings, one could argue anything to be ethical or unethical. Religion is not the purpose, it is a tool.
There is no greater idiot than you, you are so short-sighted.

p.s- LoL! i don't think so...but yea, nice comeback! ya gotta call it.

morals and ethics come from God, as well as love and justice. Humans are created in God's image, therefore we rely on our conscience unlike animals which rely on instinct.
