I got my wisdom teeth removed at 8am today and it is now 9pm and I have NOT had ANY facial swelling? Does it sometimes take an extra day or two for the swelling to start? Is it possible that my face wont end up swelling, or will I wake up with a huge face tomorrow? Has anyone been in this situation before?

The third day after surgery is when you can see a "peak" in swelling. Not everyone swells. Make sure you apply ice to your face (20 minutes on, then 20 minutes off) all day the day of surgery and the day after. It is a good idea to take an anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen is usually recommended 600-800mg every 6-8 hours for a minimum of 5 days). This not only helps with swelling but discomfort. You will probably wake with some swelling tomorrow, but no need to worry.

Many people are different. Some get swelling, some don't. I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled the same day and my face did not swell.

some people never have swelling. It depends on how difficult the extraction was. My wisdom where fully formed and fully impacted, very difficult extraction. My face was swollen when I woke up from the surgery and stayed swollen for a few days. My sister had almost no swelling and very little pain. Hope you are one of the lucky ones.

It can start up by that evening or the following morning. Sometimes it can last two days, but on occasion it can last longer (up to afour or five days). Many people experience mild swelling that's very hard to notice. Massive swelling usually isn't an issue unless your teeth were really far back or deep.

it depends on the person, i had all 4 removed at once and had a hard time with swelling, i was about 20 yrs. old at the time. My daughter had the same thing done 'bout three yrs. ago and didn't have many problems. i guess it depends on whether or not they are impacted as mine were..My daughter had to have them removed so she could get braces. I'd say you are in good shape so far, and good luck in your recovery!

For me and my brother and sister, none of us swelled. We all did the same thing, we had two bags of frozen peas covered with dish clothes and rubberbands to hold the cloth. Every couple of hours we put them on for an hour while we were laying down. It really worked. So it depends on what you do or how you are going to react.
