I got my wisdom teeth taken out today at about 8am and its now 9pm. I have not had ANY swelling of my face yet. When people get their wisdom teeth removed, when does the swelling usually begin? Does it ever take a day to two to show up? or am I in the clear? Thanks!

If you had little trauma it wouldn't swell much at all. If you kept cold packs on that helps too. I had little to no swelling with mine. Everyone is different depending on the amount of effort it took to remove the wisdom teeth on th dentists part. You could have some swelling in the morning yet. It should not take two days to tell how much it will swell. I would say within 24 hours you should know how much swelling you will have.

Not every wisdom teeth removal causes swelling. In fact less than 50% do cause swelling. Such swelling is caused by uncareful manipulation (by the doctor); organism reaction after very complicated procedures (such procedures are tissue cuts to visualize bone that needs to be removed in order to uncover the wisdom tooth and remove it); or even sometimes because the patient did something that hurt the tissues and these got swollen.
The swelling itself is usually blood accumulated under the tissues, therefore such swelling will disappear as the blood gets reabsorbed.
Therefore if you haven't had any swelling then your doctor is probably a good one and above all he/she may be very patient.
The fact that a dentist takes long to remove a wisdom tooth usually means that he cares more about your health than about the time spent on the procedure; in the other hand of course, you may also find bad dentists that also take long for such procedures.

I had swelling start about 8 hours after the procedure, and the peack being the next morning. If you haven't swelled, you maybe in the clear. Some people don't look like chipmunks. My swelling was minor (and I had all 4 out)!

It depends. Usually within the 24 hours after they were taken out. But the swelling might go down just as quick as it came on. Good luck, it hurts, I had all 4 done at the same time.

some swell right away and some don't swell at all. my cousin didn't swell whatsoever (lucky duck) i didn't start swelling till that first night, then it got pretty big and died down after 3-4 days. it depends on how your body reacts. just make sure you keep up with the heat/ice packs!!

You are pretty lucky so far! I would say you are ok, but keep taking the antibiotics and anti-inflammatories prescribed. A lot of the time it will swell at night when you are lying down because blood circulation slows.

Some people are more resiliant than others - I hardly swelled, but it was a little noticeable the following day. By the third day, nothing.

After 1-2 hours a little, by the evening a lot. Consider yourself lucky; I looked like a chipmunk.

during the night see what you look like tomorrow ,if it was an easy removal and not to traumatic on the muscles and nerves .you may get away with little swelling.

Sorry but mine showed up and got worse the 2nd day. And worse and worse, and did not go away for about a week.
It was horrible! I looked ridiculous!
I know a lot of people who were just fine though, so you still have a good chance.
