Three friends check into a motel for the night and the clerk tells them the bill is $30, payable in advance. So, they each pay the clerk $10 and go to their room. A few minutes later, the clerk realizes he has made an error and overcharged the trio by $5. He asks the bellhop to return $5 to the 3 friends who had just checked in. The bellhop sees this as an opportunity to make $2 as he reasons that the three friends would have a tough time dividing $5 evenly among them; so he decides to tell them that the clerk made a mistake of only $3, giving a dollar back to each of the friends. He pockets the leftover $2 and goes home for the day! Now, each of the three friends gets a dollar back, thus they each paid $9 for the room which is a total of $27 for the night. We know the bellhop pocketed $2 and adding that to the $27, you get $29, not $30 which was originally spent. Where did the other dollar go????

There is no "other dollar". The "extra $5" was distributed with $3 to the friends and $2 to the bellhop.
The room costs $27, and that's what the friends paid for it.
This puzzle tricks you into mixing subtraction and addition.

No, your suppose to add the bell hop's $2 to the $25 paid to the hotel. Then the $3 given to the three friends, thus total $30. therefore the three friends were suckered again for paying $9 each because the bellhop took $2 out their refund. so actually, the three friend were supposed to pay $8.33 each.

Here goes the trick, you are not suppose to add $2 you should minus the $2
The correct equation,
The right amount =Amount - Overcharged
The right amount =Amount - Amount returned - Money taken by the bellhoop
=$30 - $3 - $2
=$27 (which is 3x$9) - $2
=$25
The equation the riddle made:
=$27 + $ 2
=$29
see the different there? hope u guys understand hehe. the $1 never gone missing, just a wrong calculation.

He actually pockets $3 - from the $5 he gets back, he gives his two friends $1 each, leaving him with $3.

the other dollar didnt go anywhere, you are tricking these people, you are supposed to subtract the 2 dollars to get the cost of the room, $25, not add it to get $29.

The Naming of Canada
Three explorers were hiking through a vast forest that would eventually become Canada.
"You know," said the first explorer, "we should name this vast forest we're hiking through."
"I know," said the second explorer. "We'll each pick a letter and then make a name out of that."
"Good idea," said the third explorer. "You go first."
"Okay," said the first explorer. "C, ay."
"My turn," said the second explorer. "N, ay."
Unfortunately, before the third explorer could choose a letter, a bear jumped out of the trees and killed and ate all three explorers. Eventually, some guy came along and named the country after his aunt.
