There are a number of very nice rest areas right on I 95. I would recomend these ones: in Maryland, right after you cross the bridge over the Susquehana River, in Virginia the one just before you get to Richmond, in North Carolina I'd recommend you get off the highway and pull into Fayetteville, there are a lot of nice restaurants (plus you may want to check into a hotel for the night to get some sleep - you will have been on the road about 12 hours at this point).

On the second day, I'd recommend this big rest area just after you pass Columbia, South Carolina. Then I'd suggest you get off the highway and pull into Jacksonville (there are a lot of nice places to eat there). Once you get back on the road, you'll want to stop at the rest stop in Port St Joe (you'll HAVE to stop there - it's 4 hours from Jacksonville to Port St Joe and there aren't any rest stops between those two cities).

By that time, you're only a couple of hours from South Florida - so you're almost there!

It depends on where In SC, you are driving from.... It could mean HUNDREDS of miles more or less.... I think $275 is a Safe figure for total fuel cost, provided you use regular fuel. One tip that I will share is that driving at night WILL save both time and money as the decreased amount of traffic does not account for as many traffic tie ups... especially going North into DC on 95. In my personal Experience driving from Burlington, VT to Tampa, Fl, I made the trip in two 11 hour shifts (with a hotel break during the day) and topped off when I got down to about a half a tank which lowered my total fill ups. From Rocky MT, NC to Tampa, I spent about $250 with fuel being in the $2.80/gallon price range.... I was driving a Ford F-150 Crewcab with a 5.7L V-8 Hope this helps.

The highway rest area are almost like parks in MD and VA.. Best bet stay on I-95 and avoid South of the Border on the NC/SC border. no matter how mesmerized you are by the billboards.

I do not recall exactly, but my mother used to take us down the coast every year when we were young. On the interstates there are always food and toilet areas as well as gas. You will see signs.

Happy trails.
