I made a bad judgemment call when I started and cockblocked this person at work, because she was totally intrusive, rude, ignorant and ubnoxious with their comments; but people at work actually deal w/ that person and some like them (that figures). So now, the new ones went on her side (its like KINDERGARDEN). They talk around me and drop not so suttle hints that they basically shut me out, but this is not a problem because I don't want to hang out with them. The problem is I am worried they are inventing stuff about me and spreading it to work people and that a lie will get to the boss. I mean I work w/ them I don't need to be their friend, but they act like 5 year olds, saying dumb commentaries about dumb stuff. How do I keep my career safe? or is it domed because of these people who are hypocrites and talk to me when the boss is there only?

Let the boss know of good things you have done. I frequently "cc" my boss on e-mails that I sent to clients when I have done extensive research on a trade with them. I am sure that you can think of diplomatic ways to keep your boss "in the loop." Most bosses can weed out the mature people from the babies faster than you think just by you doing the best job you can. I say this with well over a decade of experience with adult babies.

if they talk to you only when the boss is around you can either talk to your boss first and explain what is going on and that you would like to get along with everyone or try to talk to them and say you don't want to be part of this behavior because it is harassment and if it continues you will go to the boss. you are supposed to be able to go to work without being harassed. if you have a human resources person you could talk to them about it too.

I would talk to your boss or bosses about it and tell them that they don't care for you for some reason and they make stuff up and that is harrassment. They can be fired for making you feel uncomfortable at work or unsafe. I hate stupid girls like that. What makes someone feel so good to hurt someone elses feelings and make them feel lonely and left out. How uncool. Another suggestion, sounds like you are a cool girl so find another job that respects you more and gives you what you deserve.

The best thing you can do is always strive to be the best employee at work. Do your job well and ignore the stupid games. Most often it will work in your favor. Believe it or not, most bosses are not stupid or unaware of the games people play.

blend in within your comfort zone or find another job (if it looks like it'll be likely that they'll get the boss to fire you because once you get fired and its on your record it'll be harder for you to get hired by the next employer). joke with them if you can whenever opportunities come around. try to be friends with them, but dont try too hard. be humble, laugh with them sometimes or join their conversations or pretend that you agree with them at times. apologize when they feel that you've done them wrong. use some of the ways that your other coworkers are dealing with this rude person AND most of all let someone else deal with them (you'll love every second of watching someone else dealing with this rude person). so basically yes, pretend that you like them and let someone else have a grudge with them, it'll be fun and you'll have less problems with them. its kinda like letting them have a taste of their own medicine without having yourself involved with them.

summary of my personal experience: this goes on at my workplace too, im sure every work environment has this problem. coworkers gossiping about each other excessively or argue over how things should be done or complaining one person is doing more work than the other---all the cr*p that goes on. i consider myself either nice or cordial with everyone at work (if i dont like them, i just be neutral to them, instead of nice or mean). i let them have it their own way, i dont argue about the work load share , i try really hard to keep my complaints/gossips minimal (you cannot trust or confide anyone at work if you do--do it with great caution because your words can hurt you). My problematic coworker/coworkers usually end up having problems with each other for the things that i could've confront them with, but instead i chose not to. Instead i let them deal with each other and i watch and smile to myself. let the ignorant deal with the ignorant or even better-- let the boss deal with them.
sorry this is so long, its just that i could relate to your problem and i love and appreciate simplicity and thought i could help a little at least or pass along with what i know or been through.

Go to Human Reaources. If that don't work, sue them for defamation of character.

i would speak to your boss immediately...he/she should be able to sort this out. and if said workers don't back off, your boss should realize that they haven't grown up enough to be at that job.
