I'm a singer and I frequently lose my voice due to illnesses. This is what usually works for me:
First, don't talk and don't whisper (which is worse than talking). It only makes the inflammation in your vocal cords worse. Write things down instead and let your voice rest. This is the single best thing you can do for yourself. The less you speak, the quicker your voice will heal.
Second, try breathing steam. A hot bath or shower would work, or boil some water on the stove and breathe the steam from that.
Drink a lot of water. This will keep your vocal cords hydrated so they can heal faster. Tea with honey is also okay and might feel soothing.
If you cannot talk because you have a lot of phlegm in your throat, get a lemon and squirt the juice down your throat to burn away all that mucus. Careful not to squirt it in your eye- that will sting.

I lose my voice from screaming on the best of my lungs at a ball sport that's particularly intriguing,or at a person that's particularly a bloodless-hearted jerk!Or it might be from getting a extreme sore throat contamination!

My mom always said to not try to talk. BUT voice coaches say that you should try to sing as long as your NOT straining your vocal cords. also some warm tea's flavor is up to you. DO NOT use milk in tea it can cause flem and that is not what you need at this point.
