With 8K, I would suggest that you take a stroll around the car lots, and see which models pique your interest.
Consider these things before giving your money away
1. Reliability (or ease of maintenance)
2. Cost of maintenance.
3. function and purpose (Is it JUST for commuting, or do you haul any equipment on a regular basis, and/or do you want the abilities that a truck bed allows....
4. What about severe weather conditions? Do you live in snow country?

It doesn't matter what WE think...You have to drop the cash, and You want to be happy with your purchase.
(Bear in mind that there will ALWAYS be a better deal around the corner, but it will wash out if you are happy with what you chose)

For me and 8K, I would be looking at a 1959 MGA or such auto

Buy an older honda accord or civic and put money into it if you are into that. Look at late 90's toyota's lexus' and honda's and acura's. With 8 grand you will easily be able to find something you like with great reliability from the car companies. Hope ya like what you get.

A used Chevy--see a local dealership, not a car lot as the car will be better checked out. Good luck.

Japanese car makers make better cars for that money. If it had another zero I would have said Germany.
