Depends on age... for me, it's right after the Colbert Report. For my 14 yr. old, it's 11 o'clock so long as he is able to wake himself up in the morning (without an alarm clock). If he doesn't wake up himself, he goes at 10:30 for a week because it means he's growing and needs more sleep.
When my kids were 10, they went to bed at 8 ... apparently they were the only kids with such an "unreasonable" bedtime :)

When they're young, you'll know they're tired. Why? because they either get extremly cranky or really hyper....if theyre older (between 9 and up) start with 9 PM and as they get older just let them decide when to go to bed. Usually little kids should go to bed between 7 and 8ish...
