Good question. Do you think they might have reproduced on the ark, perhaps? Remember, too, that there were 7 of every pure animal, only 2 of every impure ones (those that either had split hooves, or didn't chew their cud, or both). I don't know if that helps.
Some believe every animal was vegetarian up to the flood, but I am far from convinced of that one.
N.B. Remember, hares, mice, hamsters, reproduced like ..... rabbits!
EDIT:
Scott is forgetting that they stayed on the ark much longer than the flood lasted. Also, food was brought aboard the ark. They probably kept on using that while waiting for stuff to grow, although there was already some growth on the mountains by the time they left the ark.

Mud?
Cause after the world was underwater for months on end, all the plants were dead. Nothing for anyone.
(This is the point where Creationists and Literalists invoke Godmagic...one point of many, many, many. Reality time: The Ark story doesn't hold up to the real world.)

Maybe Noah, thought of that before hand, and gave them some of his steak. Or could he have just went fishing. I am sure carnivorous animals can survive without eating other mammals for more than 40 days.

Do you remember when the Lord said things like the lion and the lamb would lie down together,or the child will play with the asp and so forth? ...well it was the same principle during the flood so all the animals were compatable in order to bring to pass the purposes of God.

Great question. If you find the answer, you would have solved a major piece of the puzzle regarding the Universal Flood. Because, so far, science has not been able to confirm that such event ever happened.

Noah's Ark must be some kind of parable because you couldn't fit the given cubits of animals into the cubits of ship given.

Speaking biblically animals and people did not eat meat until after the flood.
Gen 1:29-30
And God said, "See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.
30 "Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food"; and it was so.
And here is post flood
Gen 9:1-4
So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth.
2 "And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are given into your hand.
3 "Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. I have given you all things, even as the green herbs.
4 "But you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood
Hope this helps.

I've always thought that is why Noah was told to bring seven of every unclean animal. For food for the others, plus survival of their own species.

They tried to eat the flying spaghetti monster but he kicked their asses. That's why there are no more dinosaurs, he ****** them up, and the rest of the animals just ate their dead bodies.
