Tonight I picked up Polly (age 14-16, Siamese-Domestic Shorthair cross). She was urinating as I lifted her and I got cat pee on my hand and arm and on the rug. There was quite a bit. I put her down and she ran downstairs. She is showing signs of aging. Is incontinence a symptom of aging? What else could it be? Thanks!

My 22 yr old cat never did this so I don't think at 14-16 it is a sign of aging. She certainly needs a vet check on her blood values at that age. I hope that you do take her in for a good checkup to she if she has any medical issues that could be treated.

Many animals pee (even poop) when frightened or stressed while being handled - its their way of saying, "let me go." I wouldn't worry about incontinence becuase as I understand you, there seems to have been a reason why Polly peed - she was stressed or pissed off and wanted everyone to leave her alone! She's fine I think. My neutered male cat did that to me when he was 4 years old and I was just attempting to show him off to some visiting relatives - he didn't like it and so he peed. And of course, my first reaction was to let him go - just the reaction he was hoping for. Cats rule, man.

Age, kidney problems, urinary tract problems. You should take her to the vet.
