Yes. I pray in the spirit and I pray with understanding.
I sing in the spirit and I sing with understanding.
The one who prays in tongues edifies himself.
The one who prays in tongues speaks mysteries to God.
Paul thanked God that he prayed in tongues more than all.
He said "I wish that you all spoke in tongues."

Speaking/praying in tongues is the Spirit speaking through you. It makes intercession of things that you don't even know you have need of. I do speak with other tongues, both in church and in private, but only as the Holy Spirit leads.

baptism of the holy spirit
receiving the gift of the holy spirit is a endowment a force a power and just as you received salvation you must personally receive the holy spirit but first there is a qualification john 14;17 the spirit of the truth whom the world can receive because it neither sees him are knows him but you know him for he dwells with you john is speaking to believers those that have taken the first step to make Jesus there Savior to make this brief i am going to give you only the Scriptures Jesus promised another helper jn;14;16 & 16;25 acts 2;1acts 2;38 acts 8;14 acts 8;18cor14;18 these are only some refrence perhaps it might be easier if you buy a book at your local christian book store on the subject because your suppose to speak in tongue in your own prayer closet but you can bring it out to in a group prayer meeting and you can pray in tongues to a congregation only when there is a interperter may god be with you on your quest to a higher level

I pray in tongues in private and have also been used to give out messages in tongues in church with interpretation. Praying in tongues in your private devotional time is a great faith builder because you know God the Holy Ghost is talking directly to God the Father. There have been times it is strictly worship, there have been times it was intercession, and there have been times when it has been hard spiritual warfare. I don't understand what the Holy Ghost is saying in private devotional tongues but I get the sense of the general tenure of what He is doing - never specifics. I would not trade my experience in the Holy Ghost for any amount of money or argument in the world.

Yes, I pray in tongues privately.
But am not against praying in worship.
Some people say that it's something you cannot control, but if you look in the Bible you find it is true.
I believe in praying in tongues as the evidence of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit as well as the gift of tongues, which is when the Lord gives an interpretation.
The reason to pray in tongues is to bring you closer to God, also because we do not know how to pray sometimes. God knows all that's going on, He knows our hearts, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us, praying what needs to be prayed, praying the perfect prayer.

Babble off the top of your head privately? You forget that God destroyed the Tower of Babel -- a tower of confusion. Why would you want to become a "tower of confusion" yourself when you pray? Charismatic churches love a "feel-good" message. This is why they play big emotional stage music and do nothing but sing and dance. Meanwhile, you're all kept illiterate on what God has to say since you're too busy with your fake, stage antics; and therefore have no time for God's word. Meanwhile, the pastor could be lying about something and it'd slip right by you, 'cause he's been keeping his "charismatic" church high on "feel-good" messages, and running a "Broadway Musical" up on stage, instead of teaching the truth like he should be. Very rarely does God's word ever get THOROUGHLY taught in churches like these. They just want hear what "feels good". Keep the mass "doped-up" on emotional stage music.

Both; the word speaks of when you talk in an unknown tongue you're talking not to man, but to God. And when you do, you build up yourself spiritually - you're edifying yourself.
You can pray in church as part of corporate worship.
Also, you can and should speak in tongues in private - while in your devotional time, or throughout the day, 'cause if you're praying to God in the Spirit, He's the One who's attention you desire anyway, and He is Spirit - so it's Spirit connecting to Spirit. But, you don't want to be in public speaking in tongues out loud - say, for instance in the supermarket line, or at the drugstore. Praying in the Spirit is an intimate, precious connection between a believer and His heavenly father, not to be taken for granted, or used to draw attention to yourself. .

Yes I do pray in tongues on occasion in private- not at church because there is no interpreter. Tongues in a gift given to believers, but not every believer is given this gift. Some in the charismatic moment feel you are not saved without that gift- that is not true.

interior the recent testomony, the Apostles have been given the skill to speak in tongues whilst the Holy Spirit descended upon them at Pentecost. Now, mutually as i think this present does certainly exist (and via that, I propose that witnessing can go beyond language), that's an intelligible language, no longer gibberish as I truthfully have considered and heard interior the Pentecostal flow (and others announcing they have the present of speaking in tongues). it is not any longer speaking in tongues; it is not a actual language human beings can comprehend.

This is just an opinion, but I dont think praying in tongues means anything. If you dont even know what your saying than what are you talling God? I mean, sure, if you can speak some sort of "Holy Language" (i.e. tongues) than neat, but I dont think it works for prayer.
