I do not mean to sound insensitive or unwilling to fulfill a requirement. That being said, I have a school assignment. I am supposed to attend a worship service, but in order to meet this requirement I must travel about 90 miles. Can someone help me with a description of a worship service. A link would be a plus.

First one with a good link and description gets the points. I am desperate, people.

Thank you in advance.

For those of you who are trying to convince me to go to a Christian church, you are "barking up the wrong tree", so to speak. I am a Christian. I have learned a lot from my class, though I have more to learn. I do not need the BS answers that tell me Islam is violent and corrupt. People, those views are the same type of view that extremists have, and that is where terrorists come in. Devout Muslims are not violent. I have a sister-in-law who is Muslim. ANyway, thanks to all who gave legitimate answers. And to Muslims who have posted here, I wish more people could accept you and your beliefs. Even if they don't share them.

May the peace, blessings and mercy of God be upon you

Firstly, you should view this flash animation on how we pray, and what we are saying when we pray. It is very good, and accurate.

http://www.islamicfinder.org/prayer/index.html

As for a prayer service, it is held on Fridays about noon time.

Firstly there is the Athan (pronounced Azan) this is the call to prayer,

2xAllāhu Akbar God is the greatest
2xAsh-hadu allā ilāha illallāh I bear witness that there is no god except God
2xAsh-hadu anna Muhammadur rasūlullāh
I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of God
2xHayya 'alas-salātCome to prayer
2xHayya 'alal-falāhCome to success
2xالله اكبرAllāhu akbarGod is the greatest
1xلا اله الا اللهLā ilāha illallāhThere is no deity worthy of worship besides God

Then there is a sermon (arabic word is Khutba) by the person who leads the prayer (Imam). It is broken into to two parts, with a short interval in between (as this is the way the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him) did it.

There there is the Iqama

The word iqama (Arabic: إقامة) refers to the second call to Islamic Prayer, given immediately before the prayer begins. Generally speaking, the iqama is given more quickly and in a more monotone fashion, as compared to the adhan. It differs from the first call to prayer, the adhan in only one place (line 6, below):

God is Greatest, God is Greatest, āllahu ākbar, āllahu ākbar

I assert that there is no deity worthy of worship besides God
ash'hadu ān lā ilaha illā-llah

I assert that Muhammad is the Messenger of God āsh'hadu ānna mūhammadār rasūlu-llah

Come to the prayer hayyā `alā-s-salat

Come to successhayyā `alā-l-falāh

Stand for prayer (twice) qad qāma tis-salaat

God is Greatest, God is Greatest āllahu ākbar, āllahu ākbar

There is no deity worthy of worship besides God lā ilaha illā-llah

After this we pray 2 rakat (units of prayer) of the special Friday (Jumah) prayer, which is on top of the 5 daily prayers.

Then after you can prayer some extra rakats to gain some more good deeds, but usually most people leave to get back to work or what not.

Msg me for more information if you would like, and don't forget to view that page, you will learn lots.

Peace Be With You

Muslims worship (pray) five times a day, every day. But what you're asking for is the actual service at a mosque, right? It's called jumu'ah. It's on Friday's just after noon.

First, a sermon (khutba) is delivered (by a khatib). That's followed by a communal prayer, meant to replace the regular noontime prayer led by the imam (it's also shorter than the regular noontime prayer). In most cases the khatib and imam are the same person.

If you find a mosque (masjid), call to find out the exact time and to make sure you'd be welcome there. They'll always welcome you, it's just more a matter of courtesy. Just remember to take off your shoes!

If you have to do an assignment on a worship service you should go to a christian church where the true living God is being worshipped. His name is Yahweh there are no other gods but Him, he is the creator of heaven and earth. He does not demand from us rituals of repetitive prayers but seeks our fellowship through worship and prayers from the heart, not memorized ones. Salvation is of the Lord and is a free gift we cannot earn it through works, it is by grace we are saved though faith and not that of ourselves.

the place of worship which is similar to church in christianity is called "Masjid".

when you enter the Masjid, u will find places for women and places for males. and u will also find places where you can wash yourself before starting ur prayer.

-at first, the call of prayers started,
-then people started to come closer and set down until the 2nd call of prayers comes in,
-people sets on the ground waiting for prayer to start. sometime they keep themselves busy by reading Quran (with low tone) or praise God (with low tone).
- when the 2nd call of prayer called in, people start to get ready to pray, they stand up and take positions.
- the imam (anyone can lead prayers) start the prayer, and everyone follow him.
- after done from praying, you shake the person hand from the right, and shake the person hand from the left.

A islam once said if god ordered him to kill innocent babies, then he will be ok to do so, so in our eyes, that is devil worshiping.

Dear honey,

Islam is very easy to adapt and won't be a burden.
I think worship means praying. Once you travel >90km you can delay your prayer until you finish travelling. But no excuse to skip it.
There will be a lot of way including shorting the praying session.

I don't have a good reference here, come anybody please help this sweetie.

Islam is the religion of submission to one God ( ALLAH ).

A Shadow en laa illa ha illa Allah , Ashadown ennah Muhammadem Rasoolilah * I bare witness that there is no God worthy of worship except Allah , and I bare witness that Muhammed Saaws, is his last and final messenger.

A worship place for Muslims is called in Arabic a * MASJID * , and in english a Mosque. It is the place where we pray five times a day, each according to what time it is. You do not always have to pray there, but during Jummah prayer, on Friday it is obligatory.

Islamic worship, needs not a specific place, every part of the world is a worship place, if it is clean.
