My boyfriend and my sister both live with me. I have compleated my tax return by filing head of household and claiming both my sister and boyfriend. Neither of them are dependant children. They have both filed single claiming only themselves. I made more than twice the amount they did and was responsible for more than 50% of maintaining the household. I found this on the IRS website:
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD-you may claim head of household filing status on your tax return only if you are unmarried and pay more than 50% of the costs of keeping up a home for yourself and your dependent(s) or other qualifying individuals.
I assume that quaifys me for head of household but, I just dont know if my sister and boyfriend qualify as dependants. I am not trying to claim them for the EIC only to qualify for head of household.
