Hey everyone! Thanks in advance for all advice. So, I've been seeing this guy I like for about five weeks now. We have these great conversations, everything is clicking. Except for one thing that happened on our first dates. We were having sushi and he tried one of my rolls and liked it. I told him he could have as many as he wanted, to which he responded, "Well, of course I can. I'm paying." I was so taken aback I wasn't sure how to respond, so I decided that since it seemed out of character and my friends had said so many good things about him I would let it go and get to know him more before I made a decision. So we've been getting to know each other better and he seems really great, honest, genuine, responsible, fun. Then I think back to that comment and I wonder if it is a sign of the real him after the facade wears off. What do you guys think? Was he just reacting to me, being tacky or is this a red flag?

Hard to say at this point. Even jokes can have truth to them, though! Definitely keep your eye out for controlling behavior. Also, don't let the relationship progress physically until you really know him. This is important because guys like to get physical at their pace, not yours, and if you keep your boundaries intact, you may get to see how he reacts when you're in control, not him. Hope that helps! :-)

It all depends on how he said it,was he laughing like joking about it. Because if he was then that's probably how he meant it.And to be sure pay attention to when you go out places and he pays, and if his reaction is similar to the one before, then I would say it is a red flag, but only to his insecurities about money, which could be a problem down the line.Think about it do you want to marry a cheap man.

I think you over reacting about the verbal incidence. Was he saying he could help himself to your dinner or he could order what he wants? In any case, you say he seems to be a good guy. Let it go. So many women over analyze things. They pick things apart till they loose what they have.

i think thats kind of rude .. i mean okayy so he was paying but he should in a sense i guess .. but i mean it was your food wether he paid for it or not it was yours .. and i dont think that was a comment that a gentleman should make to a girl on one of thier first dates.

That's rude to me, it doesn't seem like he's doing it out of his heart, it seems like he's doing it because he's "supposed" to. Guys like that don't go very far with me.
