All puppies and the moma have worms. We treat all at the same time with Nemex 2. You can buy it at a feed store. The worms are usually caused by eating their own feces. Normally the pups get the parasites from the mama's milk. Humans don't get these, under usual cirumstances. Only if ingested. A lot of worms in pets are caused by mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks. Another common worm in pups is a round worm.
So under all circumstances, when the pups get the first shot, we worm the next day or so, and follow up with another in a week. It may take several treatments to be rid of the parasites. We do all of our own vet care, except for rabies. That in Georgia has to be given by a Vet. A good paper back book is "Dogs Drugstore" It gives all sysmptoms, and medicines to administer. A lot of medicines, can be OTC for humans, and the doses are in this book for dogs. It is advised that humans should wash their hands after handling pup and their moma.

Tape worms come from animals ingesting flea eggs and they then turn to larvae and then tapeworms.it's very common and very simple to get rid of.first you can only get the best worm meds from your vet and if you take a stool sample with you tomorrow they can test it and give you the correct med and get rid of all the worms. Then if the puppy is old enough get her the K-9 Advantix or what ever your vet recommends and you will have a happy and healthy dog. And yes you and your kids can get worms but not from just petting your puppy but from crawling around on the floor and were your puppy lays.Hand Washing is the best prevention for any diseases.Tell the kids not to put their hand to their face when playing with the puppy and wash their hands when done, hand sanitizer works too.

Puppies frequently have worms so don't worry too much. You did the right thing taking her to the vet. Dogs get tapeworms from fleas so be sure you have good flea control medication for your puppy. People can get tapeworms too - generally because children accidentally ingest tapeworm eggs. Humans usually get tapeworms from eating sushi (raw fish). There's also some risk from eating underdone pork and beef. Just be sure to always wash hands after handling the puppy and wash her bedding often.

Tapeworms come from ingesting a flea. It is not contagious in the same way that other worms are. Just watch the other dogs for signs of tapeworms. Also use Frontline and it will kill the fleas and help prevent tapeworms.

Your best bet is to go ahead and have all of your animals checked. Tapeworms are transferred either by fleas or through feces of an infected animal. Your vet will be able to easily treat all of your animals, in the meantime, keep them separated from the one you know is infected (feces anyway) if possible just to be safe. Don't worry about the kids, they won't get it. But don't allow them near the feces anyway, as I'm sure you already know. =)

tapeworms in dogs and cats are generally caused by eating an infected flea. they can also be caused by eating raw meat. in people, it would be mostly caused by the raw meat. the other animals wouldn't get them unless they would ingest the poo or ate another infected flea. clean up poop as fast as possible to avoid this. treat your home and your animals for fleas (Frontline Plus and Advantage are the best treating the animals). the tapeworms will easily be cleared up with 1 dose of Drontal (a pill or injection) from your vet.

Your other cat and dog can catch tapeworms. Dogs and cats usually get tapeworms through flea bites, so be sure to check your pets for fleas. Use Frontline or Revolution to kill the fleas, and take your pets to the vet to get dewormer for all of them. If one has it, the rest most likely do too.
Your kids should be fine... the dog/cat tapeworm is usually species-specific and not transferable to humans.

Small domestic dogs that vomit or have diarrhea can dehydrate rapidly. With chihuahuas you apart from mght danger extreme blood sugar themes. i might propose getting him checked via a vet. he's somewhat youthful to be remote from his mom and littermates. Please do no longer take possibilities which incorporate your little canines's existence. you will desire to take a stool pattern to the vet and get the perfect dewormer, yet i might assume you won't be able to try this till the domestic dog is an time-honored affected person.

To be safe, treat the other cat and dog. It's cheap, compared to the vet bills if they get sick from worms.
