I have the cold/flu that's been going around. But the symptoms are unusual: no sore throat, no coughing, clear sinuses, but a persistent mild fever (37.6 C/99.7 F) that doesn't go down, accompanied by the usual aches, headache and tiredness. It's not too bad but I am not able to do much because of the fever and overall lethargy. I would be more worried if it wasn't for the fact that other people are out sick with a similar cold, but it's been almost 10 days. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there an unusual bug going around?

You simply have a viral illness of some sort. Not all viral infections cause colds or the cold symtoms of a stuffy/runny nose. Most of them cause generalized fatigue, headaches, and a mild fever, because your immune system is busy fighting it off and would appreciate it if you rested. A viral infection usually lasts between 10 days and 2 weeks, though it can last longer if you insist on burning the candle from both ends. If you can listen to the demands your body is making, rest and eat well, drink plenty of fluids not to include alcohol, and relax, you will get better much faster. You can take whatever you like to help with the generalized aches, like Tylenol or Motrin, and try a hot bath. The fever is actually a good thing, since it makes it difficult to impossible for the virus to reproduce, but your body is quite able to function at the higher temperatures. So you don't really want to try to lower the temperature at all, unless it climbs up to 102. Unless that happens, though, the fever is really a friend you should tolerate. Viral infections can also cause a mild rash, or even give you a slapped cheek look, and for the most part are not a big problem for an otherwise healthy adult. So rest as you can and wait it out.

As Ferris' dad says, take a couple of aspirin, eat some soup, wrap a hot towel around your head then take a nap.
