Yeah, I was shocked when I found out a friend of mine from high school was Buddhist. We had another Buddhist student who wore the traditional orange Buddhist monk robes, so EVERYONE knew he was Buddhist.
But this friend of mine...I never would have thought it. He just didn't seem like the...type, I guess. Most Buddhists that I've met have been cryptically philosophical, and tranquil to be around.
This friend of mine is zany, flirtatious (seriously, he flirted with ALL the girls in high school), loud, absolutely HYSTERICAL, goofy...everything that I DON'T usually associate with Buddhists.
The guy that wore the traditional monk robes was REALLY sweet, and funny when you could get him to talk (which wasn't often), but he wasn't the type of funny that this other guy was. The one that wore the robes was more the Buddhist "type", I thought.

Yeah; a friend of mine suddenly wanted me to start reading Sylvia Browne and other New Age books. This surprised me, since I'd always thought of this friend of mine as a very intelligent, rational person.
I'd like to say that I don't have a stereotype about people who believe in (the majority of) New Age religions, but I guess I do. The more I find out about them, the less esteem I have for them.
BTW, I'm not Christian or anything, so it's not like I'm bashing "unbelievers". I just think that the vast majority of New Age religious types don't do nearly enough thinking. In fact, I tend to think the same thing about Christians.

that's achieveable, yet I see no reason to think of that's genuine and that i see advantageous little evidence for it. yet i do no longer see the choose for a deity to regulate it. possibly there is a few larger length the place the potential trend of out brains is reproduced and it gets to proceed on in that length while our bodies and brains die. no choose for a deity. Now, while you're speaking approximately Heaven, Hell, Valhalla, Hel, Hades, and so on. then confident, those places choose a guy interior the Sky to return to a decision in case you surpassed your 3 undesirable issues or no longer. Even the Buddhist reincarnation desires something that judges in case you have lead a serene existence or no longer and in case you get to circulate up, circulate down or circulate around returned. Edit: i do no longer see the conservation of potential argument as in any respect compelling for an afterlife. that's the fast-term corporation of that potential that concerns, no longer the potential itself. that's like saying that if I make a alluring porcelain vase, then take a brilliant hammer and break it right into a thousand million products of airborne dirt and dust and scatter this around the globe - that the vase remains there. No, that's no longer . no longer in any clever definition of the be conscious 'vase'. specific the atoms are nonetheless there yet they are able to no longer carry water, or do something that a vase can do. The potential that mobilizes my strategies and strategies will possibly no longer disappear yet without my strategies to establish it in basically the excellent way that's particularly like the airborne dirt and dust that replace into the vase. additionally the potential that ran my strategies final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days has long previous, dissipated into entropy. Why is the potential as quickly as I die any diverse? If my dying creates a spirit or a ghost then why are we no longer consistently producing those ghosts? This isn't clever to me. (yet then neither does quantum foam - LOL) I do think of that non-existence is confusing to conceive and settle for and that that's probably the main suitable drives or faith, and while human beings be waiting to unshackle themselves from that faith, spirituality.

Yes. One girl whom I went to school with (she was a few years ahead of me) and is part of a large Catholic family came to the door one day handing out tracts for the Jehovah's Witnesses after they built a Kingdom hall down the road. It made me believe that you just might be able to convert some people going door to door.

yeah, the day my friend Rene told me he was christian, I asked him "What is that?"
He proceeded to tell me about a god and bible. I didn't believe him. But I didn't have stereotype ideas about it because it was still new to me.

No. Most people keep it pretty quiet and it is hard to tell.
