I have two cats. The first, Jane, always uses the scratching post. Her sister, Emma, never does. Instead, she scratches the door frame of my bedroom door. I've been spraying her with a water bottle for months, and she doesn't seemed fazed. She'll run away and then come back in a few minutes and do it again.

I've also moved the scratching post up against the door frame so that she would scratch that instead, but she just climbs up the post and scratches the wood.

I think she's doing it for attention because she only does it at night when my fiancee and I are alseep and after she's been crying for a few minutes for attention (in the wee hours of the morning). Sometimes my fiancee gets up to give her the attenton she wants but it only postpones the scratching.

How can I get her to stop this behavior? I really don't want her to destroy the door frame any more than she has!

Yes....that is exactly what she is doing. If the water isn't working, then you will probably have to wait until she moves to something else......hopefully less annoying. Keep her out of the room while you sleep if that is an option. My cat knows exactly the things to do when she wants attention. Try hard to ignore her because she keeps track of what will make you look at her.....sit up.....chase her....etc. Good luck!

The lesser of both evils will be to enable the cat into the bedroom at evening. She is scratching on the door because she's lonesome. she will in all probability purr loudly for a short at the same time as, or maybe lick a face or neck for a short at the same time as. She gained't attempt this each and each and every one evening lengthy, besides the undeniable fact that. in all probability, after she shows her appreciation and affection with the purring and licking, she will in all probability curl up someplace on the mattress, and sleep. Mine purrs, licks, then curls up on the foot of the mattress and sleeps soundly. shall we me have an effective evening's sleep to boot.

Maybe you could tape something on the door frame, all the way around, that would deter her from scratching. A hard plastic or maybe even foil could work. Anything that keeps her from returning to that area. Keeping the area covered up and the post next to it may help.

You might try spraying the doorframe with Bitter Apple and trimming her nails so she feels less inclined to scratch. Also, if she likes catnip, put that on the scratch post you want her to use. Good luck

LOL nope she does it in the middle of the night because she can get away with it. Try some boundary, you can get it at the pet store. They also sell plastic sheets of tape, this stops it too. I have lots of it on my walls. LOL
